Click on the questions below to reveal the answer. How does our conversion kit work?
Bio Performance’s kit is an intelligent electronic manager run by microprocessors and a software that control the vehicle stoichiometry (air/fuel mixture), in association with the lambda probe; this allows the ideal adjustment of the fuel used (ethanol/petroleum/mix), and promotes economy as well as better vehicle system performance.

Can the conversion kit be installed in any vehicle?
Our conversion kit can be installed in any vehicle that runs on petroleum with an electronic injection system and digital ignition (Multipoint/Monopoint).

What is the difference between fitting one of our kits and buying a new Flex Fuel vehicle?
The new flex fuelled cars are not much different to a standard car. They simply have a sensor in the fuel tank and an ECU that can extend the pulse width. There are no changes made to the engine and the manufacturers have no additive or special oils.

How do we install the conversion kit on the vehicle?
Installation is simple and is made using connectors, without cutting wires and without interfering in the vehicle originality. The kit is installed on the line of the injection nozzles and a wire connected to the negative of the battery (see the Connection Diagram for).

Will the fuel consumption increase by using Bio Ethanol?
Although the octane rating (that's its resistance to damaging engine 'knock' or pinking) of Bio Ethanol is higher than petrol, the energy content is lower so vehicles which run on E85 will do fewer miles to the gallon. However, it is worth mentioning that if the maintenance and inspection of the vehicle is correctly made immediately after the conversion, the vehicle will run without increasing the fuel consumption depending on the setup of the unit after installation.

Is it possible to use a mixture, or Bio Ethanol or petroleum only?
Yes. This manager was developed to give the driver the option to choose any type of fuel desired to fill up the tank whether being 100% petroleum, 100% Bio Ethanol or mixture of both. This system is known as fuel-flex.

Will a car fuelled with Bio Ethanol E85 only, lose power?
No, because Bio Ethanol is a higher octane fuel (104-109 RON), that is, it burns only when the spark plugs spark, therefore, the engine balance operates at its best and gives better performance to the vehicle.

Does the use of Bio Ethanol or a mixture wear out the engine components faster?
Considering that Bio Ethanol E100 is drier and alkaline, it can reduce the lubrication of the engine parts due to the elimination of all impurities left by petroleum; therefore, premature wear of the parts may occur. However, this problem can be avoided by adding a small percentage of petroleum to Bio Ethanol (creating E85) in order to lubricate these parts. In addition, it is recommended to follow a preventive and corrective maintenance routine.

Can the use of E85 Bio Ethanol or a mixture cause corrosion problems with rubber and aluminium components?
No. Today, the cause of many corrosion problems in rubber and aluminium components is the lack of constant preventive maintenance and adulterated fuel, that is, fuels that contain a blend of water, chlorine and solvent. This affects the system very badly and can be the origin of failures and increased consumption that can result in serious car problems. The clean, non adulterated Bio Ethanol (E100) will not cause any corrosion problem; it will only reduce the parts lubrication, therefore, we must add petroleum to Bio Ethanol (E85) to avoid these problems.

Is it necessary to replace vehicle components to use Bio Ethanol E85 or a mixture?
No. It is recommended to carry out an inspection to check the vehicle parts and general maintenance condition of the vehicle. Items such as: fuel pump, injection nozzles, oil, filters, MAP sensors, Lambda probe, etc. should be inspected, however, any part or sensor near the end of its useful life should be replaced by a new one, otherwise, it will jeopardize the manager operation and cause excessive fuel consumption. In case fuel pump burning occurs (petroleum), we recommend replacing it with an ethanol pump. However, vehicle manufacturers were set the task of developing the materials of components within their vehicles to be compatible with the possible corrosive issues associated with running ethanol mixtures in 1990, thus reducing potential problems occurring in more modern vehicles.

Does the conversion kit change the vehicle originality?
No. Its installation does not require any modification to the vehicles original wiring; therefore, its originality is maintained.

Will fitting the conversion kit affect the manufacturer’s warranty of the vehicle?
We recommend you consult your local dealership for further information as there is no simple answer to this question.

Will installing the conversion kit affect my insurance policy?
When installing one of our kits you will be modifying your car. You must notify your insurance company of any modifications made to your vehicle, especially as there may be an increase in power. They will then advise you as to whether there will be a change in your premium.

Can I use Bio Ethanol E85 all year round?
Yes, however, we do recommend that in the winter months there is some petrol present in the fuel tank (as when running E85) at all times in order to run more smoothly. This helps to prevent issues with cold starts. However, all the conversion kits we supply currently include the cold start module to help eliminate any risk of problems during the winter months.
